Yapko M D: Implications of the Ericksonian and Neurolinguistic programming approaches for responsibility of therapeutic outcomes.
Am J Clin Hypn 27(2): 137-143, 1984.
Abstract: Discusses the use of neurolinguistic programming (NLP) in therapy with married couples. The utilization of representational systems, including patterns relative to modality of information accessing (e.g., blinking, head tilt) and anchoring (i.e., a technique for creating new conditioned stimuli), are discussed. The techniques are related to intervention with couples, which involves finding out how the patient would like to behave with the spouse in a given context and what alternative internal state will allow the desired behavior. A case report, involving a professional couple, aged in their 30's, who were 2 yrs into their marriage (the 2nd for each), illustrates treatment using NLP techniques.
