Abstract: According to the NLP model eye movements have a function in encoding and decoding of sensually represented experiences. How motor activity could exert such an influence remains to a large extent open and the explanations given are not really conclusive. The survey of relevant literature in this paper attempts to compare the assumptions of the NLP model with fundamentals and research in the physiology of eye movement and with theories and research on mental imagery. The results suggest that the basic processes are more complex then assumed in the NLP eye movement model.

Das NLP-Modell sieht eine Funktion der Augenbewegungen bei der De- und Enkodierung sinnlich repräsentierter Erfahrungen vor. Wie motorische Aktivität einen solchen Einfluss ausüben kann, bleibt weitgehend ungeklärt und ist darüber hinaus nicht schlüssig. Anhand einer Literaturdurchsicht wird ein Vergleich der Modellannahmen mit Grundlagen und Forschung der Physiologie der Blickmotorik einerseits und mit Theorien und Forschung über mentale Vorstellung andererseits vorgenommen. Die Ergebnisse sprechen dafür, dass die grundlegenden Prozesse komplexer sind als im Augenbewegungsmodell angenommen.
