Henwood S: The impact of neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) training in clinical health care practice: a case study.
Current Research in NLP 3: 45-58, 2013.
Abstract: This article explores a small study of 8 students who have studied NLP and their perceived impact of NLP training on clinical practice in health care. A longitudinal case study approach was employed, with qualified health care practitioners in the UK who had undertaken NLP training in the previous 18 months. The qualitative data was analysed using an interpretive thematic analysis to establish the major themes emerging from the data. It was apparent that individual practitioners had developed their own understanding of NLP and that whilst having no prior knowledge of NLP, participants did expect to gain from the training. Practitioners all perceived positive impact from the training for themselves and their patients. A number of barriers were also identified, which inhibited the even wider use of NLP in practice. The data shows that for these participants, there were a range of beneficial outcomes from the training. More research is required however, to explore in more depth how the impact of training can be measured objectively for impact.
