Abstract: Visual/Kinesthetic Dissociation (VK-D) a visualizing technique in Hypnosis invented by MiltonErickson and modified by Grinder and Bandler in Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) (1975)(1979).Thepatient imagines himself sitting in a cinema seat. He then visualizes a double-version of himself in theprojection booth. Out of this second perspective he looks at the first double-watching the past traumatic sceneon the movie screen. Since perceived indirectly, the trauma evokes less emotion. In the presented naturalisticand observational study we evaluated the effect of NLP on 9 patients diagnosed with Post-Traumatic StressDisorder (PTSD). PTSD severity scores were measured before treatment by Impact of Event Scale Revised(IES-R; 56, 4±11,5).Each subject received six sessions of VK-D over the course of six weeks. After theintervention patients had progressively and significantly improved with an average IES-R reduction of about68% at 6 months (38,6 ±13,4).After only two sessions the average IES-R intrusion score had already droppedfrom 22 to 12.Repeating session from one to six increased treatment efficiency. Those preliminary results arepromising and encouraging. Further research with larger samples and randomized trials is needed to replicateour findings and to determine the most efficient therapeutic frequency.
